Today is the last day of classes at public schools across the country. Schools need to be converted into polling stations for the election. 13,250 polling stations will be set up nationwide for the Sunday, 16 May municipal and congressional election.
The president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) Administrative Chamber said that all is ready for the staging of the election. Public schools are due to reopen on Tuesday.
Classes at most private schools will continue as normal.
A total of 6,116,397 people are registered to vote in the Dominican Republic.
The campaign continues through Friday, when all promotional activities need to come to a halt. Dominicans get two campaign-free days to make their final decision about who to vote for.
