Diario Libre comments that many television viewers in La Romana were not able to watch the Monday TV program that broadcast alleged irregularities in the distribution of appliances, toys, mattresses and other goods purchased with National Lottery funds. Serious technical interference affected Channel 7's transmission in La Romana at the time of the program. The program aired footage showing National Lottery vehicles transporting the goods from the headquarters of the National Lottery to provincial towns, including La Romana, the hometown of Lottery manager Enrique Martinez. Martinez is a former senator for La Romana and his wife is running for re-election in the province.
According to Diario Libre, users of social networks Twitter and Facebook reported interference for viewers signed into Aster cable TV service. Aster's manager is Fernando Martinez, brother of Enrique Martinez, general manager of the National Lottery.
Diario Libre says that the interference was interpreted locally as a way of supressing the report presented by Alicia Ortega, whose investigative program enjoys a high level of credibility.
