The PRD candidate for senator for the National District, Milagros Ortiz Bosch says that the government's decision to bankroll the PLD election campaign with government funds has led to a government budget deficit of RD$18 billion during the first trimester of the year, as reported in the Listin Diario. She says this could mean new and higher taxes that could affect productive sectors and taxpayers that will have to pay for the fallout. She said that government spending is up 41% during this period, compared with the same period last year, coinciding with the electoral campaign. She was quoting statistics provided by Economy Minister Temistocles Montas, who admitted that in the first trimester of the year there was a deficit of RD$18 billion and this could reach RD$50 billion by the end of the year.
