Eric Musselman has confirmed he will coach the national basketball team in FIBA Centrobasket scheduled for July 2010 in Santo Domingo, according to El Caribe. The Dominican Basketball Federation has yet to make the announcement that they have found their head coach.
A spokesman for Fedombal nevertheless told Diario Libre that the appointment would not be announced until next Wednesday. He mentioned that several Fedombal executives are candidates in the 16 May election.
Musselman coached the Golden State Warriors in 2002-03 and in 2003-04 and led the Sacramento Kings in 2006. The Warriors improved to 38 victories in his first season, 17 more than they had won the year before he arrived. For his career, he has a 108-138 record.
All Voices online portal says that Musselman was set to turn down the offer, mainly because of his responsibilities with the Adidas Nations basketball camps. However, Dominican officials are making it possible for Musselman to coach around the camps.
The tournament will be held at Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto in Santo Domingo from 5-11 July 2010.
Practices with 35 players will begin 10, 11, 12 June and on 14 June the players making the team will have been chosen.
10 Central American and Caribbean countries will be competing in this qualifying event for the Pre-Olympic Tournament.
