The Public Works Minister has announced that construction will be starting next week on a tunnel connecting Ortega y Gasset and Jose Contreras avenues. The tunnel will cross under the 27 de Febrero and Bolivar avenues. This 1km two-lane tunnel will be the second to cross the city from north to south. The first was built under the Mirador del Sur Park down from Nunez de Caceres Avenue. The new tunnel will be part of the Duarte Corridor, which seeks to ease north-south traffic flow in Santo Domingo.
