The head of the Organization of American States observers mission, Canadian Adam Blackwell, said that the complaints about the supposed unevenness and use of the State's resources in the election campaign were considered normal. He said that he had met with all the political parties and civil society representatives, and that the JCE (the Central Electoral Board) was taking the complaints seriously.
"The JCE is taking it all seriously; we are going to accompany the JCE and we hope we can find a solution", he said. Blackwell reiterated that he has seen enormous progress in the Dominican Republic since 1994.
He added that they are going to study, to listen and talk about the entire process, and would issue some conclusions on Election Day. They will also make a statement on the day after the elections.
"I believe that there are complaints in any election. In my country, in the United States, here (in the DR), there is no perfect democracy", he added.
Blackwell told reporters that the country has a very serious electoral board and that they are going to accompany them during the process.
