The government of Taiwan has donated US$500,000 to help strengthen controls along the border with Haiti, where human trafficking and drug trafficking is rife. The money, which was delivered to the Migration Department, is aimed at strengthening the institution and border control logistics. Minister of Economy, Planning and Development Temistocles Montas said that this was the final part of a US$12.5 million aid package for this year. The money will pay for border patrol vehicles and staff training. Taiwanese Ambassador Isaac Tsai said that the resources would also be used to set up four offices and eight control units, and to purchase ten patrol vehicles and five buses as well as training and equipping the people who will work along the frontier.
