Drugs caught on ship from Belgium

The US Drug Enforcement Administration tipped off the local Drug Control Department (DNCD) to a shipment of cocaine on board a ship from Belgium that was docked at the port of Manzanillo, in Montecristi province. DNCD agents confiscated 29 packages of cocaine, weighing more than 32 kilos. The drug haul was found in a freight container transported by the vessel Summer Flower. DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebron said that this was the second shipment of cocaine confiscated at that terminal in the past 45 days from a ship that had arrived from Belgium to transport bananas. The first shipment of 62 kilos was confiscated on 28 March on board the Summer Wind. The drugs were confiscated in the presence of prosecutor Rafael A. Sanchez and sent to the DNCD forensic lab in Santo Domingo.
