Servio Tulio Castanos Guzman, director of the Institutionalism and Justice Foundation (Finjus) said that the ruling PLD party's overwhelming victory in the 16 May congressional and municipal election means they have an even greater responsibility towards the people, as reported in El Caribe. Castanos said that the government now needed to carry out a legal overhaul in order to implement the new Constitution. He said the JCE has 30 days to announce the winners. Once this is done, he said the new congress that starts on 16 August needed to focus on appointing the new members of the Supreme Court of Justice, the Constitutional Court and the Electoral Court.
