Amable Aristy Castro, who running on the PRSC ticket in the past presidential election cost the party its recognition by the JCE due to the low vote he received nationwide, has proved he is king in his home province of La Altagracia. This is the third time he has won the senate seat. On the previous two occasions he turned it down to continue as president of the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the government organization that channels funds to municipal councils nationwide. In 2010, he ran against German Castro Garcia, his cousin, to whom he had delegated the senate seat position in 2006, when he turned it down to continue at the LMD. Castro Garcia was running for the PLD.
Amable Aristy won after receiving 27,026 votes, for 40.74%. The PLD candidate placed second with 24,944 votes, for 37.60% and the PRD candidate received 11,785 votes, 18.24%.
Amable Aristy's strong hold in the province has also enabled him to push his own daughter Karina to be mayor of Higuey, the largest city in the province. Karina Aristy was re-elected as mayor of Higuey in the 2010 election.
