In a press conference on the results of the congressional and municipal election, PRD president Miguel Vargas focused on the positive outcomes for his party. He said the PRD had made gains in the election and that preliminary figures showed that the party had obtained 78 deputy seats, or 15% more than in 2006. He said that in 2006, the PRD had won 33% of the municipal votes, and this time it received 45% of the vote.
He said that in 2006, the PRD obtained 52 mayor posts, and now it has won 59 posts, including several in important cities, such as Santiago, Santo Domingo North, Santo Domingo West, Barahona, Bani, Cotui, San Cristobal, Moca, Dajabon, Hato Mayor, Pedernales and San Jose de Ocoa.
The PRD, nevertheless, failed to obtain a single Senate seat. As of Bulletin 10, the PLD had won 90 mayor posts and 31 senate seats.
