Most prominent observation to me on this last trip is the overabundance of adolescent Haitian males (5-25 yrs) "en la calle".
Adolescence, hormones, poverty, desperation, young/willing females can make for an explosive mix.

Curious to see how it pans out.....

Im noticeing more kids sleeping on the street.

Im sure they have always been around - but now - very noticable in tourist areas by the clubs.

very sad - you know its there and life is hard, but when you walk by them it puts things in perspective.

I noticed a lot of kids on the street begging daytime and night in March. I was wondering if they never went to school being that it would be 11am on a weekday and they were standing outside of the NG. After 2 days I got used to it and just thought it was part of the way things are there. I also wanted to know where are the parents of the young girls hanging out on the strip week nights till late. These are the 16, 17 year olds that I saw almost every evening in march. I would assume they were there looking to make money.

It's going ot get worse before it gets better...

...with Haiti still reeling from the quake....the European market in chaos because of the economic collapse in Greece that will mean less tourists' dollars...and the fallout from that BP pipeline may reach the coast of North & South Carolina and as far south as various parts of the Caribbean in the next few months - that will reek havoc on the fishing and boating industries...

...there's gonna be a lot of deseperate people on the street.

Be smart out there fellas.

Hey Apos:

What is the reason for Sosua being so slow from your perspective on the ground?? Talking to other business owners etc...

Is it the Euros or something else?? New Garden seems to always be packed so what is the missing ingredient why its so slow??

Last month we sat at a popular bar watching them on a corner and vehicles pulling up and at least the ones we saw being smart enough to check and drive off. The bar man pointed out that they were years away from being legal and warned us to always check ID's

I don't care if they look 30 I say no frickin way with no ID. I can't stand the heat during the day let alone in those 100 degree jails with the 20 half naked guys jammed in there for car accidents.

check ID's

It is hard to understand those ID's they have there. Hard to tell how old they are on the ID compared to what age they tell you.

I don't know what you have seen but I had no problem seeing the D.O.B with my limited Spanish.

DOB can always be seen on both Haitian and Dominican cedula's

Watch out for the very vague foto's though... there is most of the time no way to know if the girl holding the cedula is the girl in the foto

Are you doubting 8or Better's word? He assured us that they were stark naked, not half naked. In fact, he assured us, and mongers on another whoreboard, of that fact many, many times. He seems strangely fixated on that image.

Try "couple of hundred"

Notice how weyland managed to jump on a moto very quickly after his accident was it the cell or the money he was most worried about?

I already know the answer. LOL

Lets face it weyland the REAL reason you wouldn't go down there and get a pic was you were scared I relize this but your still my hero.

Hey Weyland do you want me to come over and pick you up and we will drive to San Marcos and tell the guards at the prison we want to take photos of "Naked Hoodlums".

Do not want your reputation sullied because you did not fulfill your obligations to 8orbetter

I am not doubting him 1 bit. I believe it was just like he said and it scares the hell out of me to think about driving there now.

In the U.S. I have no fear and I have no fear of being in countries more dangerous than the DR. Simple common sense and experience goes a long way. But that stupid car accident law with mandatory lock up in that Jail does

You guys don't quite understand why I told you the story.
If one fucking person on one fucking board would have told me I am going to jail after getting into Auto accident [not to mention thousands in extortion] because it is Dominican law in a not so friendly evironment NO matter what credit card or liabilty insurance you have I would have never EVER rented a car in the DR. Whether you guys rent a car or not in DR or not is up to you but I warned you.
Noone else did.

Jimmy should post this warning in rental car section just so people know.
This is very clear no way around it.

Dominican law requires that a driver be taken into custody for driving under the influence or being involved in an accident that causes serious injury or death, even if the driver is insured and appears not to have been at fault. The minimum detention period is 48 hours; however, detentions frequently last until a judicial decision is reached (often weeks or months), or until a waiver is signed by the injured party (usually as the result of a cash settlement).

WEYLAND isn't going.

He keeps saying he don't like naked men but I saw him naked with 8 other viagra filled gentlemen in a pool what is the difference? NONE
For the record I wouldn't want to go down there either but you guys need to see it for a car rental deterrant.

I and other have been bustin' your balls. And the way you told the whole story was confusing and repetitive both on this board and that other one.

Having said that, I think that it was one of the most valuable posts ever made as it stirred up masses of discussion and some useful information about an important issue. I am still not clear about all the issues but then there is no chance of my ever driving in the DR so I don't need to be.

It has made me think twice about which kind friends I am prepared to accept lifts from. One or two of my friends here drive like assholes and it is only a matter of time before they kill or injure someone. I don't want to be in their car when that happens.

I think you missed that Snoozer was offering to take me to San Marco (presumably not where you were taken unless they are as confused about your gender as you are). I might just be tempted to go there.
