The Central Electoral Board (JCE) will take a week to complete the final tallies on the congressional elections, especially for the Chamber of Deputies. JCE Administrative Chamber magistrate Angel Aquino said on Tuesday that the counting of the preferential votes could take a week to finish, and he called on the political parties to be calm.
He said that the counting of these votes would begin after the municipal election boards have finished their work. He said that since Monday, all the election boards are reviewing the invalid votes and the votes that were "observed". Disputes Chamber judge Eddy Olivares said that he and his colleagues expected a large number of challenges from candidates for deputy and at municipal level once that the last bulletin is released. He said, "Nobody should declare themselves a winner until the JCE says this is so".
El Nuevo Diario says that the PRD will challenge the results in at least 12 provinces.
