In Las Matas de Farfan, three people have been injured and 33 houses were damaged by flooding caused by the recent rains and strong winds, according to the Emergency Operations Center (COE). The injured, who were hospitalized, were named as Ruben D'Oleo, Pedro Montero Sanchez and Luis Joel Montero Ogando. The houses lost their roofs to high winds in La Mina and La Mula in San Juan de la Maguana province. According to the COE, a small tornado generated strong, violent winds and heavy rains.
The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) is forecasting three more days of rain due to a low-pressure area located over the center of the island. The low-pressure area is bringing winds from the east/southeast that are pulling in clouds over the national territory. These clouds will lead to rainfall with thunder and lightning for the next 72 hours, especially in the east, northeast and the central mountains.
