In addition to the agreement with the doctors, as reported in yesterday's DR1 news, the government has granted a gradual salary increase of 30% with the Health Sector National Coordinating Board and the nurses' unions.
During a series of separate meetings held between representatives of these entities and Vice President and Acting President Rafael Alburquerque and Minister of Public Health Bautista Rojas Gomez at the Presidential Palace, it was agreed that a first increase of 15% would take effect in August of this year. Then, in January 2011, another 10% would become effective and in August of 2011, the final 5% would take effect. A similar agreement was reached with the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) on Tuesday.
