Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa delivered yesterday to the Senate the Agreement of Association and Purchase-Sale of Shares of the Dominican Petroleum Refinery (Refidomsa), signed between the Dominican State and the Mercantile Society PDV Caribe, S.A., a branch of Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), a state institution.
He urges the quick approval of the deal. By means of the Agreement, the Dominican State sells, cedes, and transfers to PDV Caribe 49% of the shares of Refidomsa, free of all liens, charges or attachments, leaving the Dominican State with 51% of the shares. The total amount of the transaction totals US$133,434,532.50 according to Article V of the agreement.
Article 10 established that the Dominican State promises PDV Caribe to request approvals from the proper agencies the concession of tax and duty incentives.
According to Article 19, the contract will only become valid when the competent agencies have approved it, according to Article 128, number 2 of the new Constitution.
Upon receiving the contract, Senate president Reinaldo Pared Perez announced that next Tuesday, the document would be officially received in the session to be convened at 3pm. From there it will follow the normal procedures and go to commission for its study and consideration.
