Update on the second metro line

The second metro line will be completely underground and protected against earthquakes, tsunamis and any other natural disaster, according to the assistant director of the Transport Reorganization Office (OPRET), Leonel Carrasco. The new, 14-station section of the Metro system will use pilings and beams to support the overhead loads. According to Carrasco the new metro line will be completely tunneled using a Robbins EPB machine that leaves the tunnel nearly finished. Over at the Olympic Center, Opret is working on the transfer station where people will be able to change from one station to another on the same fare.
