Business leaders Ernesto Vilalta and Ignacio Mendez in a press release circulating since last week warned that there are several government officers with private agendas that are in contradiction with the government programs. They said this situation may affect the prestige of President Leonel Fernandez himself. They considered there is a perception that in the government there is lack of order, authority and indelicate practices that conspire against the government of Fernandez. "The main enemies of the administration of Fernandez are his own government officers that have initiatives that contradict the government program and are based on their particular interests, a situation that could end up affecting the level of confidence and prestige that the President still enjoy," said Vilalta and Mendez in a joint statement to the press. Mendez is the president of the Federacion de Asociaciones Industriales and Vilalta is a former president of the Asociacion de Empresas e Industrias de Herrera.
Both salute the "responsible" decision of Technical Minister of the Presidency Temistocles Montas to put a hold to the US$132 million loan for purchase of equipment for the police that was widely criticized in the press for overvaluation and excessive commissions and fees. "What would be ideal is that this kind of initiative not even get to the point where it can be publicly criticized," stated the businessmen.
