Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and National Drug Control Department agents confiscated more than 1,000 kilos of cocaine south of Saona Island yesterday. According to reports published in El Dia, the drugs had been "bombarded" from a plane inbound from South America. The shipment was due to be picked up by a speedboat. Nevertheless, the authorities got there first. The newspaper reports that as of 5pm yesterday, the authorities had picked up 42 packages of cocaine and were combing the area for additional packages.
The Navy, the Air Force, the DNCD were working with the DEA.
