Business organizations have criticized the government lack of energy savings. Ignacio Mendez of the Association of Industrialists (FAI), Manuel Cabrera of Association of Industries of Herrera (AEIH) and Circe Almanzar of the Association of Industries of the DR concur: "In real terms the country does not have a strategy focused on saving. The government authorities are those who least show any interest in savings," they concluded as reported in El Caribe.
Ignacio Mendez said that the lack of interest in economizing is part of the peculiarity of the Dominican who does not prepare for anything, does not believe in maintenance or in saving, and added to that the culture of excess spending 'that has been the practice of this government.' Mendez said that commissions are appointed, but since there is no accountability, let alone consequences, then nothing happens. We are in the culture of "nothing happens," he told Hoy.
Manuel Cabrera commented that we do not have to wait until petroleum goes back up to US$147.50 to start saving.
Circe Almanzar of AIRD said that when the prices of petroleum have been high what the authorities have done is communicate circumstantial policies, but there has not been the political will to create a true policy that includes educating citizens on savings.
