Marisol Tobal, adjunct prosecutor for children announced she will be appealing the decision of judge Marcia Polanco that released from responsibility the father and stepmother of a child that her department had accused of abusing a three year old boy. Tobal said that the judge did not consider the proofs provided by physicians that treated the child. The child was removed from the care of his father and stepmother and returned to the biological mother that was provided with financial support. The medical reports show the child with lesions on buttocks, back and abdomen that were clearly caused by beating with a belt, bruises caused by other objects. The examination showed traces of serious past lesions. The medics denied these could have been caused by a simple bicycle crash as the parents alleged. The case has been discussed on TV and radio talk shows.
