The Sunland Corporation RD, S.A. has published paid advertisements in the local press defending its contract for Police equipment that was approved by Congress. The company says that the US$132 million financing, that includes US$42 million in fees and commissions, was evaluated and discussed by the Ministry of Finances for four months. It states that the high pricing of the vehicles is because the units are highly sophisticated. It states that the next step is for the Ministry of Interior and Police to call a public tender for the purchase of the equipment under the terms of the financing that now is available. The financing met with strong opposition from the press, the civic society group Participacion Ciudadana and others, to the point that Technical Minister of the Presidency Temistocles Montas called it an error and rejected it.

SunLand release highlights the loan has the support of the US government export agency, US Eximbank. US Eximbank loans have supported millions in loans that like the police equipment financing loan have been questioned and rejected in press reports. These include US Eximbank financing for sports facilities, including one linked to the Quirino Paulino Castillo case, one of the largest drug confiscation cases in Caribbean history.
