The National Council of Business (CONEP) has announced its support of the measures imposed by Presidential Decree to reduce the violence in the Dominican Republic. Elena Viyella de Paliza, the CONEP spokesperson, told reporters that her group thinks the President took an important and positive step in the fight against crime and violence. She said that Dominicans "should feel proud of our capacity to face up to problems and find solutions."
Former CONEP president and businessman, Celso Marranzini, told reporters that the steps decreed by President Fernandez, would bring some degree of tranquility to the people and to the businessmen of the nation. In Santiago, the Archbishop, Ramon Benito de la Rosa y Carpio, told reporters from El Caribe that the entire society supports the measures that go into effect tonight.
