The Ministry of Education received from the European Union EUR16.3 million, approximately RD$751 million for support to its Sectorial Education Program (Papse). Since 2007, the European Union has provided EUR54.5 million to the education program that began in 2007. Ambassador Irene Horejs, head of the Delegation of the Commission of European Communities represented the European Union. The funds will be channeled through the National Authorizing Office for European Development Funds (ONFED).
Education Minister Melanio Paredes said that the funds are used for institutional strengthening, technical assistance, and strategic consulting.
