On Tuesday the Senate approved a bill on the Sworn Statement of Assets and Illicit Enrichment for Public Officials. According to El Nuevo Diario, Senate president Reinaldo Pared Perez said that for the first time in 31 years the current group of senators has demonstrated accountability and introduced modifications to the Law 8274-79 on Sworn Declarations of Assets, which will oblige officials to comply. The bill extends the requirement to all government officials, including the Vice President, legislators, Supreme Court judges, the governor of the Central Bank, mayors, consuls and ambassadors.
Pared Perez congratulated senators Francisco Dominguez Brito and Charlie Mariotti for presenting the legislative initiative.
