Honduras press is following the case of an abandoned bi-motor plane that is suspect of having been used for smuggling drugs. The flight would have originated in the DR.
On Wednesday, Honduras newspapers reported the authorities say the abandoned plane located in the remote rural area of San Pedro, Catacamas could have transported 1,500-2,000 kilos of cocaine from Puerto Plata. The flight plan showed the plane should have landed in Josefa Camejo Airport in Paraguana, Falcon in Venezuela. But the airplane took another unreported course. It is suspect to have loaded 1,500 kilos of cocaine in a jungle area of Venezuela, and then flown to Honduras where it landed at the improvised runway that some time ago had been closed in an effort to stem drug trafficking.
The investigators say that the drug dealers attempted to fly the airplane back to Venezuela or to the Dominican Republic. Nevertheless, apparently when heavy rains and mud on the field impeded takeoff, the plane was abandoned. In the interior nine recipients for fuel were found. All seats except the two of the pilot and co-pilot had been removed. The plane was found with bullet holes and investigators suspect the traffickers attempted to set it on fire to erase evidence.
