Writing in today's Hoy newspaper, Claudio Acosta speculates on the new offensive by Puerto Rican drug baron Jose David Figueroa Agosto's defense lawyers. Acosta wonders why these lawyers are really coming and what could be the true motives of the visit, announced as to come to "clean the name and the honor" of the fugitive. Acosta wonders out loud whether the lawyers are coming to protect Figueroa's remainding assets from what he describes as the insatiable voracity of the Prosecutor General Office Anti-Asset Laundering Unit? He also asks how a man who is a fugitive from justice in both Puerto Rico can here form a defense team and put his lawyers to work through the justice system. State prosecutors have been given to 7 June to present the case against him.
Acosta also mentions that those who accuse him have blamed him for the murder of four people with apparent links to his criminal network. But then the journalist speculates that that could change radically, and there could be surprises with the coming of the defense team. He speculates that his defense council strategy could be one of a frontal attack, and that he is not talking about bombs or bullets, but rather attacks against the authorities that have accused Figueroa. The defense has said the authorities have no proof, and say that in the DR, Figueroa has not been legally declared a fugitive of justice.
