I arrive at Santo Domingo airport this week but too late to take a bus to Puerto Plata. I just need some cheap room to stay 1 night...

Well you can stay in a Cabana and there are many hotels for that price range. I am sure Mr Happy will jump in soon.

I, and a lot of other posters on this board, really like the Apartahotel Roma. It's only $45USD cash (they don't accept credit), but the rooms are decent, and it's right on El Conde.

Do a search and you'll find lots of info, as well as many endorsements. Here is the website:

There is a new place on calle danae. Been open maybe 2 weeks. Everything is new. Phones AC and cable in the rooms. Sher doors vs curtains, plasma TV in the lobby and upstairs sala, free wifi and a money change cambio on premises. Prices are 35-50 per night.
