Ramon Burgos Guzman (alias Robertito) kidnapped himself to get his relatives to pay RD$1 million in ransom. He planned to use the money for paying debts, said Police spokesman General Nelson Rosario. The police reported that the 32-year old businessman from Nagua had told his relatives by phone that his kidnappers had kept him on a boat and were threatening to throw him into the sea if the ransom was not paid. He had alerted his relatives on Tuesday, 25 May. While he waited for the ransom, Burgos stayed at a pension in Sabana de la Mar, on the east coast. He initially asked for a ransom of RD$3 million.
