Assistant prosecutor Lucia Florentino, now under investigation for 4 missing kilos of cocaine is known to have been an accomplice in other irregularities. She is under investigation together with Police Lieutenant Colonel Francisco R. Vargas Urena, formerly chief of the Central Division of the DNCD and head of operations of the same DNCD division, Air Force Major Edwin Herrera Martinez. The officers and the assistant prosecutor are suspects in the disappearance of four kilos of cocaine that had been confiscated in a city drug raid. An investigating commission said that this was not the first time that Florentino had reported a smaller amount of drugs than was actually confiscated, acting in complicity with DNCD and police agents.
Nevertheless, Santo Domingo Court of Appeals prosecutor and commission member Julio Castro Castro said they had no proof of this, which in any case has been denied by Florentino.
In the most recent cases, witnesses say that 5 kilos were confiscated from Francisco Tavarez. But afterwards, only one kilo was delivered to the DNCD. The agreement was to distribute the packages among the agents and report only one back to the DNCD.
Last week the DNCD announced the dismissals of Vargas Urena and Herrera Martinez.
