The Navy reports confiscating 91 packages of cocaine weighing 94.5 kilos. The cocaine was being transported on a 23-foot fishing yacht, Veronica. Five people were arrested in the operation, which took place in Boca Chica. The captain of the boat rammed it into the sand, and escaped. The Navy and DNCD agents arrested Victor Manuel Montero Baez, Reyes Pimentel Villar, Alexis Osoria Abreu, Jose Miguel Almonte Moreno and Jesus Maria Hernandez. Prosecutors Felix Castillo Nolasco and Miguel Morfa Henriquez took part in the operation.
New spokesman for the DNCD, Colonel Ramon Alcides Rodriguez Veras said yesterday upon the confiscation of 94.5 kilos of cocaine in Boca Chica that "by air and sea the country is practically closed to drug trafficking."
