Lawyers for Puerto Rican fugitive Jose Figueroa Agosto said that the Dominican authorities could not present any drug trafficking charges against him if they do not have proof of this. Lawyers Ramon Negron Colon, Ruben Cerezo Hernandez and Dominic Rodriguez said that Figueroa Agosto had been sentenced in Puerto Rico to 209 years in jail for conspiracy, kidnapping, gun possession and murder, but not for drug trafficking as the Dominican authorities are claiming. At a press conference held yesterday, lawyer Negron said he did not know why Figueroa Agosto was on the run.
The US Marshals office lists Figueroa Agosto saying: "Figueroa Agosto is wanted by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico for escape since 1999. Figueroa Agosto was "residing in the Dominican Republic and may be hiding in Puerto Rico accompanied by a Dominican Republic fugitive Sobeida Felix Morel. They both love the high life, excluding dining and living conditions. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of this fugitive or his female companion please contact the US Marshals at 787 766-6000 24 hours."
