The 2010 Atlantic Basin Hurricane Season starts today, 1 June and will last through 30 November. US forecasters are predicting considerably higher probabilities of storms hitting the US and the Caribbean this season. The first tropical storm in the region, which affected Central America, has already caused 142 deaths in impoverished areas.
