The Dominican Republic women's volleyball team beat China 3-1 to achieve its second straight victory while Turkey clinched its first win after upsetting Cuba in straight sets at the 2010 China International Women's Volleyball Tournament in Luohe, China on Sunday.
The match is preparatory for the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix that starts on 6 August. Best scorers were Lisvel Elisa Eve Mejia with 19 points and Dahiana Burgos added 14, and Altagracia Mambru 13 to lead the Dominican Republic to the 25-20, 29-27, 25-15 and 25-20 victory over the Chinese women, who dropped to a 1-1 record in the four-team tournament.
Brazilian head coach Marcos Roberto Kwiek attributed his first victory over China to the strong service of his players.
"We are very happy to beat China," Kwiek said. "I think we played well both in defense and offense and the key to the victory was our service." China coach Wang Baoquan, who took the helm of the team two months ago, said. "The service of the Dominican Republic was really aggressive."
