Deputies approve US$10 million loan

The Chamber of Deputies has approved a US$10 million loan to finance social projects. The chamber approved the President's request, which was met by opposition from the PRD deputies. The deputies also approved a motion to declare each 10 January the National Day of Pardon. The proposal was initiated by Deputies Nelson de Jesus Arroyo Perdomo (PRD) and Juana Mercedes Vicente Moronta (PLD) and was accepted by both sides of the aisle. Another loan request for US$8.4 million for putting the Heriberto Pieter Cancer Center into operation was met with opposition from the PRD members who objected to the voting method.
