The evaluation process of the PRD's performance in the last elections, ordered by its president Miguel Vargas Maldonado, has received the backing of most of the party leadership. However, these leaders insisted that the process should not be led by the top party leaders.
Former secretary general Rafael (Fello) Subervi Bonilla, said that none of the current party authorities had sufficient credibility to head up an evaluation process, when, in his judgment, they are part of the problem that took the party to defeat in the elections. Therefore, he says that this would be "just a rumor or a warm cloth", meaning a cover up.
"The local committees, the zonal committees and the municipal committees do not even meet, so it's not an institutional problem: there has to be credibility among the leaders of the PRD, because if you have been part of the problem, you do not have a lot of capacity to evaluate it in an impartial manner", noted Subervi.
But the former Vice President of the Republic and defeated candidate for National District senator, Milagros Ortiz Bosch, said that the proposal for an internal evaluation of the PRD was correct and she identified herself as a promoter of accountability and transparency.
Leading party member Tirso Mejia Ricart said that this was a step in the right direction so that all the party organizations could express their opinions and establish their positions with a view to revising everything that has been done recently that has been dividing the party, generating unnecessary internal conflicts. They will also be able to carry out a rehabilitation process of all the party's organs that are inactive and others that have not even been chosen, such as the base committees for the election boards, the provincial committees and the political commission.
