These statistics are handled by the Ministry of Education's Guidance and Psychology Department. Psychologist Cristina Molina said that the data is part of a study carried out by the ministry in conjunction with Washington University of St. Louis, MO, the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and the Healthy Families Foundation. As part of the "Study of Behavior and Health in Young School Children in the Dominican Republic," 8,564 students between the ages of 14 and 18 were interviewed at 80 schools around the country.
