Puerto Rican defense lawyers claiming to represent Puerto Rican fugitive Jose Figueroa Agosto are asking the Dominican authorities to return goods confiscated on the grounds that Figueroa Agosto was involved in drug trafficking in the DR, reports El Caribe. The newspaper quotes Law 72-02 on laundering of assets product of illicit trafficking in drugs in its Art. 31 allows for the confiscation of goods acquired with laundering and the distribution of these among anti-drug state organizations and anti-drug governmental agencies. Yesterday, state prosecutors presented the case against Jose Figueroa Agosto for criminal association, asset laundering, sponsoring drug trafficking, forgery and use of fake identification documents, and illegal possession of weapons.
El Caribe comments that properties attributed to Figueroa Agosto include a farm in Pedro Brand, eight SUVs, in four identical pairs with the sole exception of the colors, two apartments in Torre Paradisso, one in Torre Bolivar and another in Villa Palmeras in the National District and others supposedly in the names of front persons.
