The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) and the Emergency Operations Center (COE) have reviewed the alert levels and kept the alerts for 8 of the nation's provinces. This is because of the continuing rains due to a low-pressure trough over the eastern part of the island. A green alert is in place for Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui), Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris, especially the Lower Yuna Basin), Santo Domingo, the National District, La Romana, Hato Mayor, El Seibo and San Pedro de Macoris. The Onamet is warning to be on the watch out for flooding and landslides in the provinces of Monsignor Nouel (Bonao) and La Vega, especially in the low-lying areas near rivers and streams.
Meteorology also said that rain showers will continue with thunder and lightning and strong wind gusts in several parts of the country for the next 24 to 48 hours. The rains are expected to diminish after nightfall today, Wednesday.
