President Leonel Fernandez urged its senators to speed up the approval of the sales contract for 49% stake in state-owned Refineria Dominicana de Petroleo (Refidomsa) refinery to Venezuela.
President Leonel Fernandez made the request through his Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa, who met on Tuesday with the Senate's Committee on Finance, which is discussing the agreement, according to a statement issued by the Senate.
Bengoa said that Dominican Republic would receive $133.4 million in the purchase of 49% of the shares.
Bengoa said the payment would be discounted from the current petrol bill over a period of three months after the start of the contract, following approval by Congress.
The ruling PLD party is majority in Congress.
