A report in January alerted to an urgent need to improve aviation safety. In January, the report showed there were 307 incidents where inadequate procedures, violations of the airspace and the lack of coordination with military aviation could have ended in an aviation accident. A report from the Incident Prevention Unit (ATS) of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), of which Diario Libre has a copy, also reveals deficiencies in air controllers' work. The National Pilots Association (ANP) called the situation "scary" and alerted of rapid actions needed to ensure air safety. The National Association of Air Traffic Controllers (ANACDA) attributes the crisis in air traffic in the country to the fatigue and lack of experience of the personnel that carry this job at the airports.
Recently near-miss situations in the US are also of concern to US authorities.
