Last night, the police chief sent out 2,400 police agents and 600 military personnel as part of the emergency program to control crime. Diario Libre reports 1,000 mixed police/soldiers will be sent out for patrolling. Another 200 police and soldiers are performing searches together with members of the Justice Department in bars, discotheques, "colmadones" and other centers where alcoholic beverages are sold to warn the owners that they should not sell them after midnight. Armed Forces Minister Admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez informed that commanders of military and police stations in the provinces are holding meetings to decide how to coordinate the patrolling and use of vehicles. The police are in charge of the patrolling. On the first day of the liquor curfew, colmadones that brought life to Santo Domingo's nights, dropped their doors.

Spokesman for the Police, Simon Diaz, said that all was quiet on the first day of the curfew and new patrolling effort. No violent incidents were reported.
