Jose Tomas Perez, the executive director of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), said that the International Organization of Civilian Aviation (ICAO) in a recent audit recognized the work of the IDAC in regards to quality, structures, training of staff and fulfillment of international operational security standards at Dominican airports. He disputed the statements by the National Association of Pilots on a January report that indicated there had been 307 incidents in Dominican skies.
The Association of Air Controllers also went public to dispute the statement by the spokesman for Dominican pilots regarding the report. The air controllers say that the report carried out by the Unit for the Prevention of ATS Incidents of the IDAC reports on routine occurrences that do not necessarily affect air security. Many of these enable controllers to take measures to guarantee the safety of the air space.
They say these incidents can be as insignificant as a 5-minute delay of a flight.
