Architect Marcos Barinas criticizes the government for replacing green areas with cement pavement. He said this will affect the drainage of the city, and the waters will flow into the streets, increasing flooding. He said the opposite should be happening. "If you have trees and more green areas than cemented areas, then the cemented areas should be built inclined so that the water flows into the green areas, and not the contrary," he said as reported in the Listin. He also criticized the new high sidewalks, with heights of more than 30 cms because these make it difficult for a physically limited person to get around the city. He said this decision by the city government is excluding the handicapped from getting around in the city and violates international regulations.
Diario Libre reports today that citizens are also complaining that precious trees have been toppled for the construction of the cemented sidewalks.
