The assertive foreign policy of President Leonel Fernandez will continue to take him abroad on official trips for the remainder of this year. The President would travel to Colombia, the United States and France, this year and would be visiting the United Arab Emirates in early 2007. Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso confirmed that the President would go to Colombia on a one-day visit for the taking office of re-elected Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, on 7 August. He will later visit New York where he will speak at the United Nations on 20 September. In mid-November, the President will make an official visit to France on an invitation by President Jacques Chirac. In early 2007, President Fernandez is scheduled to visit Dubai, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi, also on an official visit that Morales Troncoso termed "highly important".
