President Leonel Fernandez reinaugurated the improved installations of the Centro Universitario Regional Oeste San Juan de la Maguana (Curo-UASD), a branch of the state university. The government says it invested more than RD$1.1 billion in the new installations. In addition to serving students from San Juan de la Maguana, the university seeks to attract students from Azua and Elias Pina. The Curo-UASD has 72 classrooms of 70 square meters each.
President Leonel Fernandez told the press that the facility is better than that at many universities in Europe. Critics doubt the level of the professors will be comparable to the new installations and mention the high cost of maintaining the new facility.
