The Association of Hotels & Restaurants (Asonahores) protested that transporters in La Romana are trying to impose a monopoly on employee transportation. Asonahores said it backs its affiliate, the Association of Hotels & Restaurants of Bayahibe (AHRB) in its efforts to support its member Viva Resorts that wants to use its own transport for its employees. Asonahores urged that the authorities of the Ministry of Tourism and the Police protect the rights of the hoteliers to organize the tranport of their employees.
"The use of violence is an unacceptable practice in a democracy and with an economy based on free competition with companies having to compete in a globalized world," said Asonahores.
On Tuesday, a bus that was transporting staff of Viva Resorts was stopped and stoned in La Romana. Explains this happened after the hotel refused to pay the 68% increase demanded by the Autobuses Sol & Mar C. por A.
