Sarodj Bertin, the 22-year old representative for Haiti in Miss Universe grew up and lives in the DR. Miss Haiti is a graduate of law with studies at the PUCMM, UNHPU and Unibe universities in Santo Domingo. She is fluent in English, Spanish, French, Creole and is studying Mandarin. She has specialized in business, banking, real estate and corporate law. She said while she lives in the DR, she keeps close contact with her family and friends that live in Haiti.
"Miss Universe will remind the world that Haiti is on its feet seeking its total recovery," she told Hoy. She said that her participation in Miss Universe will not cost the government of Haiti anything, as her family is covering all expenses. She also praised Magaly Febles, director of the franchise, and organizer of the contest in the DR, also, who has supported the effort so that Haiti can be represented, after 22 years of absence. She says she will help other Haitians after her to continue to participate in the contest to promote Haiti.
She moved to the DR in 1995, when her mother, 35-year old Mireille Durocher Bertin lawyer, was murdered in Haiti on 28 March 1995. The 35-year-old lawyer was known for defending the former military government and being a critic of the government of then President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
