The government has launched a review process of the sectors that receive electricity 24 hours a day, due to the fact that users are committing fraud and not fulfilling their obligation to pay their bills on time.
Following a meeting at the Presidential Palace with Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa and President Fernandez, Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) vice president Celso Marranzini said nevertheless that the 24-hour program had not failed. He blamed consumers for failing to pay, saying this was why the authorities have begun to restrict electricity supplies to these areas. He admitted that this was not necessarily fair to users who pay their bills on time, but that this was a case where everyone was measured by the same stick.
He called on the distributors to become more efficient in their collections, since in order to qualify for 24-hour electricity an area must have at least 85% on-time collections.
