The Ministry of Public Health inaugurated a newly refurbished maternity ward at the "Jose Maria Cabral y Baez" Regional University Hospital in Santiago yesterday. The work cost RD$2 million and includes new lighting, a new Neo-natal Care Unit, new flooring and new beds. Regional Public Health manager Yadira Perez Pieter said that the facility would cater for 100,000 poor women in the area, and that one of their goals was to reduce maternal and infant death rates in the region.
